Anomalous states of metallic alloys irradiated by ions are found. The
states have unusual features, namely: they are heterogeneous although
they appear in a homogeneous equilibrium structure within a narrow ran
ge of external parameters; they are accompanied by spatial ordering at
different size levels (hierarchy of structures); a nonmonotonous depe
ndence on external flux density is observed; the states are accompanie
d by large changes in the material properties. The features enumerated
permit us to identity the states as structures typical of open system
s in the field of parameters remote from equilibrium.
