Abstract
Implementing quality management techniques, such as statistical proces s control (SPC), is a competitive necessity for today's integrated ste el producers in North America. We compared successful and unsuccessful SPC project implementations at 12 integrated steel companies to deter mine the differences in key factors. Successful implementations had la rger teams and more middle management support than unsuccessful implem entations.
