Abstract
This paper is concerned with the stability problem of the convection r oll solutions of the Oberbeck-Boussinesq equations. We consider the st ability of the roll solutions with respect to the two-dimensional dist urbances. The Eckhaus criterion for the stability and instability of t he roll solutions is derived in a mathematically rigorous way. (C) 199 7 Elsevier Science Ltd.
