P. Wong et al., MANAGEMENT AND CONSTRUCTION OF A MAJOR ZERO DISCHARGE WATER-SUPPLY AND TREATMENT SCHEME AT MOUNT-PIPER-POWER-STATION - AUSTRALIA, Desalination, 98(1-3), 1994, pp. 225-238
Excellence in the organisation and management of a large multi discipl
inary design and construct project such as the Zero Discharge Water Su
pply and Treatment Scheme for Mount Piper Power Station was essential
to its successful execution. This is a facet of a project, which is as
fundamental to its success as is the process design and equipment sel
ection, but is seldom dealt with in conferences such as this. We thoug
ht delegates would find it of interest if we shared our experience in
this area. This paper discusses the Management philosophies and strate
gies of Pacific Power and Transfield-PWT Asia/Pacific that resulted in
this project being completed to the satisfaction of the client in the
minimum time without delays and cost increases caused by interfaces b
etween the parties. It highlights the advantages of contract packaging
and placing the total responsibility for the performance and integrat
ion of a complex project system on one organisation.
