Abstract
Alumina modified by various fluorine containing compounds has been stu died in reactions of n-butene. Combination of the results thus obtaine d with pieces of information from the literature leads to the followin g model. Skeletal isomerization takes place on Lewis acid sites as a m onomolecular conversion, while on a catalyst with Bronsted acid sites the bimolecular mechanism can prevail. Experiments with higher alkenes support this picture.
