Zx. Cheng et V. Ponec, FLUORINATED ALUMINA AS A CATALYST FOR SKELETAL ISOMERIZATION OF N-BUTENE, Applied catalysis. A, General, 118(2), 1994, pp. 127-138
Alumina modified by various fluorine containing compounds has been stu
died in reactions of n-butene. Combination of the results thus obtaine
d with pieces of information from the literature leads to the followin
g model. Skeletal isomerization takes place on Lewis acid sites as a m
onomolecular conversion, while on a catalyst with Bronsted acid sites
the bimolecular mechanism can prevail. Experiments with higher alkenes
support this picture.
