THE SPLIT-POST LOCK - AN ALTERNATIVE LOCK FOR HINGE CLASPS AND SWING-LOCK REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES

When the locking component of a prosthesis loses its effectiveness, th e solution has been to replace the component. This article describes a procedure for the production of a split-post lock. This lock can be u sed as an alternative in the construction of custom-made hinge clasps or for swing-lock dentures. If a loss or reduction in lock strength oc curs through wear of components, then this split-post lock can be reac tivated. A procedure in which this lock can be used to replace a worn swing-lock latch is also described.
