Cj. Chan et G. Margolin, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DUAL-EARNER COUPLES DAILY WORK MOOD AND HOMEAFFECT, Journal of social and personal relationships, 11(4), 1994, pp. 573-586
This study explored the spillover and crossover paradigms as explanati
ons for associations between work mood and affect in the home setting.
Data from two consecutive work days for 59 dual-earner couples provid
ed evidence for both work-to-home and home-to-work effects. The spillo
ver hypothesis was supported primarily in the effect of work fatigue o
n later moods at home and the effect of positive home affects on subse
quent work moods. The crossover hypothesis was seen in the effect of w
ives' negative work mood and work fatigue on husbands' reactions at ho
me and spouses' home affect on partners' subsequent work mood. Work-ho
me linkages and gender roles are discussed.
