Taking as a starting point sentences like ''you think therefore you ar
e,'' the question is, what determines meaning in unexpected sentences?
We attempt to show that thinking out the conditions of felicity goes
against the grain of efforts to determine the linguistic form of ''wel
l constructed'' sentences, assumed to be the best way to express exper
iences such as Descartes' ''cogito.''
