Abstract
The Helmholtz wave equation for X-rays in a dielectric medium is solve d using the Rytov approximation for the X-ray phase perturbation. It i s shown that under appropriate limits the solution yields the equation s for small-angle X-ray scattering, X-ray refraction and absorption. T his demonstrates that the Rytov approximation provides a unified treat ment of small-angle X-ray phenomena.
