Jk. Mccoy et al., A LONGITUDINAL ANALYSIS OF SIBLING RELATIONSHIPS AS MEDIATORS OF THE LINK BETWEEN FAMILY PROCESSES AND YOUTHS BEST FRIENDSHIPS, Family relations, 43(4), 1994, pp. 400-408
We examined a model of the sibling relationship's mediation between th
e quality of youths' best friendships and several individual and famil
y variables. The sample included 70 Northeast Georgia children who wer
e 4 to 11 years old at the beginning of the study, their older sibling
s, and their parents. Information was derived from both self-report an
d observational assessments. The target youths' temperaments and the q
uality of their relationships with their parents both predicted best f
riendship quality indirectly, through the quality of their sibling rel
ationships.
