The coupling of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry is a helpf
ul tool for various fields in pharmaceutical analysis. Regarding the p
hotostability testing of drug substances one major application is the
structure elucidation of degradation products. It also provides new po
ssibilities for the detection of non-UV-active substances. The choice
of a suitable interface plays an important role in the LC-MS-analysis.
An instrument with a Particle Beam Interface was tested for its perfo
rmance. Best results were obtained for uncharged molecules with lower
to medium molecular masses.
