MUSCULOSKELETAL PROBLEMS IN VDT WORK - A REVIEW

This paper discusses the possible causes of musculoskeletal pain in VD T workers and outlines strategies to minimize it. The paper reviews wo rkstation, chair, and keyboard design, and makes recommendations to im prove user comfort. Also discussed is worker selection, training, post ure, conditioning, and rest breaks. Short term musculoskeletal discomf ort is experienced by many VDT operators in the telecommunications ind ustry and chronic disability may result in the long term. It is import ant that the ergonomist and office manager work together to improve th e working conditions in this important occupational area.
