The geometry and transparency of the beam pipe is expected to be refle
cted in the radiation background at the LHC experiments. We compare th
e neutron background produced by four different beam pipe geometries.
As a result of our simulation studies, we argue that a pointing conica
l beam pipe is an attractive choice to minimize neutron backgrounds in
experiments. This fact remains true even when the horizontal vertex s
ource distribution and the presence of a strong magnetic field are inc
luded.
