Solid-liquid equilibrium phase boundaries were determined with a solid
-disappearance method for binary systems composed of m-cresol, p-creso
l, ethylenediamine, and anisole. Among these mixtures, intermolecular
complexes formed in ethylenediamine + m-cresol and ehtylenediamine + p
-cresol and a single eutectic point was exhibited on the liquidus line
of anisole + m-cresol and anisole + p-cresol, respectively. To correl
ate the solid-liquid equilibirum data with theoretical models, the hea
t of fusion and liquid molar volume were also measured for each consti
tuent. The phase-equilibrium calculations showed that the Wilson model
could reproduce the liquidus lines for the systems without forming co
ngruently melting compounds, and the ideal-chemical model satisfactori
ly correlated the equilibrium data for the systems having aggregate fo
rmation.
