H. Unuma et J. Tozawa, PERCEPTION OF ILLUSORY CONTOUR AND SPATIOTEMPORAL INTEGRATION IN THE VISUAL-SYSTEM, Japanese psychological research, 36(3), 1994, pp. 188-194
Spatial and temporal conditions to perceive an illusory contour figure
were examined. Six figural elements inducing an illusory figure were
successively presented. Total time to present all inducers and the rat
io of duration to ISI between inducers were systematically varied. Fiv
e subjects Five subjects were required to rate the clairty of illusory
contour, brightness difference and apparent depth difference on an 11
point scale. The effects of total time and the ratio of duration to I
SI were significant. The results of causal analysis indicated that tot
al time determined contour, brightness and depth. In two subjects dura
tion/ISI had an influence on brightness. Contour and depth were closel
y related in all subjects. Spatio-temporal integration in the visual s
ystem which is higher than in the VIS was discussed.
