This paper presents the results obtained in a study of the galvanic pr
otection of steel provided by 55% Al-Zn coatings relative to zinc coat
ings (Sendzimir) in the atmosphere. While 55% Al-Zn coatings exhibit a
passive behaviour under low aggressive atmospheres (e.g. in rural and
urban areas), they provide good anodic performance (comparable to tha
t of zinc coatings) under marine atmospheres.
