Abstract
A new 6-substituted-5,6-dihydro-alpha-pyrone (cryptofolione) has been isolated from the bark of two species of Cryptocarya. Its structure wa s elucidated by NMR techniques and chemical conversions. The relative stereochemistry at the two carbons bearing the hydroxyl groups was ded uced after transformation into the corresponding acetonide derivative.
