The interaction of low- and high-frequency oscillations in an RLC circ
uit with a nonlinear capacitance is studied from the point of the mode
rn theory of dynamical systems. It is found that for a certain range o
f parameters such an interaction may cause chaotic instability, even u
nder the weakly nonlinear excitation conditions. The scenarios and con
ditions that give rise to chaotic oscillations are investigated both n
umerically and analytically.
