Aa. Qureshi et al., BENIGN METASTASIZING PLEOMORPHIC ADENOMA - A CASE-REPORT AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE, Clinical orthopaedics and related research, (308), 1994, pp. 192-198
A case of a 34-year-old man with a pathologic fracture through a lytic
lesion in the left glenoid is presented, The results of a needle biop
sy of the lesion showed a benign pleomorphic adenoma. Sixteen years pr
eviously, the patient had a pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland.
Histology of the initial tissue and the needle biopsy specimen were id
entical. The patient developed metastasis without any local recurrence
of the initial tumor. When evaluating a patient with a lytic lesion o
f bone with a history of a benign pleomorphic adenoma of the salivary
gland, a metastasis should be considered.
