Abstract
Many chronic alcoholics develop macrocytic or megaloblastic anemia cau sed by direct effects of alcohol and by alcohol-related cirrhosis of t he liver. Acute pancytopenia occurs as the initial manifestation of se vere multiple vitamin deficiencies in a small number of patients with chronic alcohol abuse. This complication sometimes requires bone marro w studies.
