Ca. Asbury et al., ATTITUDINAL AND PERCEPTUAL CORRELATES OF EMPLOYMENT STATUS AMONG AFRICAN-AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES, The Journal of rehabilitation, 60(2), 1994, pp. 28-32
The purpose of this study was to investigate the contribution of selec
ted attitudinal and perceptual variables to employment status. One hun
dred eighty-six African Americans from throughout the United States pa
rticipated in the study. Several attitudinal and perceptual measures w
ere obtained along with information regarding employment status. A dis
criminant analysis indicated that three variables were significantly r
elated to employment status. Positive attitudes toward employment, pos
itive attitudes toward seeking and receiving rehabilitation services a
nd high self-esteem were all significantly associated with being emplo
yed or looking for employment rather than being unemployed and not loo
king for employment.
