DNA and phospholipids share a common motif recognizable by proteins. I
t has been my hypothesis that there are DNA binding proteins which int
eract with phospholipid membranes and that their activities in DNA rep
lication, transcription, and recombination, are likely to be regulated
by phospholipids. I describe here examples of replication-related pro
teins, the activities of which are modified by acidic phospholipids in
vitro.
