Good predictive microbial models can be built with appropriate data fr om well-designed experiments. Anyone setting up an experiment should c onsider the sources of variability, possible screening experiments, op timum spacing between points on a continuous scale, and the most appro priate type of design, e.g. factorial, screening, or central composite .
