Cj. Riordan et al., MONITORING SYSTEMIC VENOUS OXYGEN SATURATIONS IN THE HYPOPLASTIC LEFT-HEART SYNDROME, The Annals of thoracic surgery, 63(3), 1997, pp. 835-837
Although progress has been made in treating hypoplastic left heart syn
drome, improvements in perioperative care may further decrease mortali
ty. We present a case in which continuous monitoring of systemic venou
s oxygen saturation allowed stabilization and successful management of
a critically ill infant. Systemic venous oxygen saturation may provid
e a more accurate representation of a child's clinical status, allowin
g more rapid intervention and better outcomes. (C) 1997 by The Society
