A filler effect on the mechanism of primary scission of polyarylate DV
was established. Small additions (less than 5 wt %) of a filler show
virtually no effect on the mechanism of thermal degradation of polyary
late. With increasing the MoS2 content in the composite to 15 wt %, th
e filler inhibits degradation of polyarylate DV both by radical and hy
drolytic mechanisms. In the 75 polyarylate DV + 25 MoS2 system, a subs
tantial activation of the polymer scission at the isopropylidene group
is observed along with the inhibiting filler effect on cleavage of th
e ester bond. The filler effect on the thermal stability of polyarylat
e can be explained by the formation of coordination bond in the polyar
ylate DV-MoS2 system.
