Group A streptococcus is a well known pathogen in suppurative diseases
(sore throat, scarlatina, cutaneous infections). Meningitis are uncom
mon and most often appear as a result of an ORL infectious site. We re
port one case in a 2-year-old boy with acute otitis. Gram-positive coc
ci in diplococci and in chains were seen in the cerebrospinal fluid (C
SF). Culture of the CSF yielded group A beta-hemolytic streptococci. T
reatment with intravenous amoxicillin for ten days has been effective.
