[(CH3)3CNH3]4V4O12 is tetragonal, I4/m, with Z = 2 and the following u
nit-cell dimensions: a = 14.988(3), c = 7.371(2) angstrom. The atomic
arrangement, determined with a set of 1665 independent reflections dow
n to a final R value of 0.040, is mainly characterized by the existenc
e of [V4O12]4- ring anions. This compound provides the first accurate
structural determination of a cyclovanadate. The vanadate ring anion h
as a 4/m internal symmetry and the organic group a mirror symmetry. Th
e hydrogen-bond scheme is given.
