The Voice Foundation Symposium: Care of the Professional Voice, held i
n Philadelphia from July 14 to 19 in 1991, was the 20th anniversary of
the Symposium. This accomplishment was celebrated in a variety of way
s, including a special session entitled ''The Integration of Voice Sci
ence, Voice Pathology, Medicine, Public Speaking, Acting, and Singing.
'' Seven prominent contributors to the Symposia were chosen to give th
eir overviews and opinions of the characteristics, success, and future
needs of this integration of the voice professions. The contributors
were chosen because they have participated heavily in this integration
and have brought the benefits to the level of the student and client
whom they serve. They all applaud the Voice Foundation for the shared
concerns and the dialogue for mutual solutions. And they all emphasize
the need to augment the integration further, especially to train the
caregivers and enlighten the researchers. The seven presentations that
follow are thoughtful views by inspring voice professionals.
