Abstract
Optimizing the conditions of growth of alpha-alumina during the therma l transformation of a transition alumina prepared by the sol-gel proce ss allows us to obtain a hot-pressed alpha-alumina ceramic with low cr itical defect size, then which presents mechanical characteristics sig nificantly better than those of alumina ceramics obtained from convent ional powders.
