Abstract
Mixed-alkali-metal metalation of toluene in the presence of TMEDA prod uces the benzyl complex [(PhCH(2))(4)Li2-xNa2+x(TMEDA)(4)], which has an octagonal ring structure that, in. spite of the 4-fold aggregation, contains Li+ cations complexed by bidentate TMEDA, a situation normal ly sterically forbidden in, homometallic lithium tetramers.
