Abstract
The addition of a variety of highly functionalized zinc-copper reagent s RCu(CN)ZnI to (eta(4)-2-formylbuta-1,3-diene)Fe(CO)3 complex in the presence of an excess of boron trifluoride etherate proceeds in a high ly diastereoselective fashion to afford dienol complexes in good yield s. Intramolecular cyclization of a cyano-substituted dienol complex co ntaining a three-carbon side chain using lithium diisopropylamide(LDA) :produces (sigma,eta(3)-allyl)tricarbonyliron complexes, whereas trea tments of the cyano-substituted dienol complex containing a four-carbo n side chain with LDA furnishes fused tetracarbonylbicyclo[4.3.0]ferra nonanones at -78 degrees C and complexes of the trimethylenemethane ty pe at 25 degrees C.
