One-hundred-and-seventy-seven children with post-measles complications
divided into two comparable groups were studied for the effect of Vit
.A Supplementation Eighty-nine children received Vit.A in doses of 200
000 units daily on two consecutive days in addition to antibacterials
and other supportive care and sg did not reveice Vit.A. The case fata
lity rate was 16 per cent in those who received VIT. A, while the same
was 32 per cent in those who did not receive Vit.A (P < 0.02). There
was no statistical difference in the mortality rate among two groups w
hen the children were suffering from severe malnutrition or encephalop
athy (P > 0.1).
