Sb. Lewis et al., MEDICAL-MANAGEMENT OF THE DIABETIC PATIENT DURING PEDIATRIC-SURGERY, Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 84(9), 1994, pp. 432-438
Diabetes mellitus commonly causes complications of the foot that can l
ead to surgery. The appropriate perioperative management of diabetic p
atients can reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with diabeti
c foot surgery and enhance wound healing. The authors review the effec
ts of hyperglycemia, detail preoperative, intraoperative, and postoper
ative care, and describe anesthetic choices. An algorithm for manageme
nt of hypoglycemia is offered.
