This article reviews normal physiologic alterations that occur during
pregnancy and delineates how the demands of pregnancy on the thyroid g
land and the immunologic changes that accompany normal pregnancy resul
t in the modification or development of thyroid diseases. Thyroid auto
antibodies and pregnancy, thyroid size and pregnancy, hypothyroidism a
nd pregnancy, hyperemesis gravidarum and thyrotoxicosis, and postpartu
