Abstract
Sphagnum majus has been collected in France long before the first reco rd of it occurrence in this country. Occurring in only five department s the distribution of this rare peat moss in France is drawned after a careful study of herbarium specimens. Habitat conditions of S. majus in France are presented from recent field observations in a few locali ties. Habitat conservation actions should be taken to protect the very few populations of that species in France.
