The first isolation of a human brain specific imidazoline binding prot
ein is described. This protein was obtained using affinity chromatogra
phy and was revealed with the aid of an anti-idiotypic antibody specif
ic for imidazoline binding sites. The protein (43 kDa) differs from ot
her imidazoline binding proteins previously isolated from peripheral t
issues, in particular by being also sensitive to clonidine.
