We investigate possible asymmetrical configurations of Coulombic three
-body systems (A(n-)+B-m++B-m+), within Langmuir's rigid-rotator model
. The recently found effect by Poirier [Phys. Rev. A 40, 3498 (1989)]
that in the two-electron atoms asymmetrical configurations appear poss
ible for certain charge ratios n/m (in addition to symmetrical ones) h
as been generalized to constituents of arbitrary masses. Results for r
ealistic cases of the charge ratios 1/2 and 2/3 are presented. It is f
ound that these systems possess the same type of degrees of instabilit
ies as those investigated by Poirier.
