Abstract
We have measured the nonlinear refractive index n(2) and two-photon ab sorption coefficient beta in GaAs/Al0.3Ga0.7As multiple-quantum-well w aveguides in the band tail region about 45 meV below the n=1 heavy hol e exciton absorption line. At 883 nm we find that beta = 1.9 x 10(-8) cm W-1 and that n(2) approximate to -1 x 10(-12) cm(2) W-1. The linear loss coefficient is measured to be 6.3 cm(-1) at the same wavelength. Based on these values, we estimate that up to 4.5 dB pulsed squeezing is possible.
