A. Waldman et al., COHERENT PHOTOCHEMISTRY IN SOLUTION - IMPULSIVE PHOTOSELECTIVE PHOTOLYSIS OF MN-2(CO)(10), Chemical physics letters, 230(1-2), 1994, pp. 110-116
Mn-2(CO)(10) photolysis with UV photons is studied through transient t
ransmission in the 500 nm product band, conducted with 100 fs time res
olution. Evolution of absorbance and its anisotropy probe continued co
herent nuclear motion, leading to emergence of Mn-2(CO)(9) through the
loss of CO, followed by carbonyl bridging between the metal atoms wit
hin a picosecond. A simplified MO scheme is presented to rationalize t
hese results.
