Abstract
This study examined the effect of eugenol and ginger oil on severe chr onic adjuvant arthritis in rats. Severe arthritis was induced in the r ight knee and right paw of male Sprague-Dawley rats by injecting 0.05 mi of a fine suspension of dead Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacilli in liquid paraffin (5 mg/ml). Eugenol(33 mg/kg) and ginger oil(33 mg/kg), given orally for 26 days, caused a significant suppression of both pa w and joint swelling. These findings suggest that eugenol and ginger o il have potent antiinflammatory and/or antirheumatic properties.
