The many problems involved in developing an ink-jet printer suitable f
or woven and knitted textiles are outlined. Efforts have been concentr
ated on adapting existing systems used for paper or carpet substrates.
Work devised to produce a modular array of drop-on-demand valves to m
eet the required criteria is described, together with details of the s
election of dyes and chemicals for a practical jet printing process.
