When an electron is transferred to C-60, the electron-lattice interact
ion results in a distortion of the bond structure and a polaronlike st
ate is formed. By solving the dynamical equations of molecules in a C-
60 cage, the time-dependent changes of the bond lengths are obtained.
We find that the relaxation time to form a polaron is about 0.3 ps, an
d is consistent with the experimental results. The implication of this
ultrafast evolution, with comparison to the soliton-antisoliton mecha
nism, is discussed.
