To design the magnetic system of the Debrecen-ECRIS and to study the b
ehaviour of charged particle traps a graphical computer code (TrapCAD
1.0) was developed. This code uses the outputs of popular general-purp
ose magnetic field calculation codes (e.g. POISSON/PANDIRA) as input.
The TrapCAD offers several built-in functions: draws field lines, flux
tubes and the surfaces of equal magnetic field. It is also possible t
o calculate and visualise the one-particle movement of charged particl
es in the trap. This paper describes all the details of the code imple
mentation, features and functions. Examples for the optimization of th
e Debrecen-ECRIS - to reduce the price of the hexapole magnet and the
electrical consumption of the solenoids - are also given.
