Abstract
The properties of particleboards depend mainly on the lignocellulosic raw materials and the binders used for their preparation as well as on the interaction between the raw materials and the binders. The main o bjective of a research work was to use the natural durability of heart wood from different tree species such as pine, Douglas fir, larch and oak for the production of particleboard with high biological resistanc e. The results of the research work will be published in a series of a rticles in the journal. In this article the state of knowledge on the properties of heartwood from different species is discussed with main emphasis on pine wood.
