Abstract
The international expedition aboard the R/V ''Dmitry Mendeleev'' into the high latitudes was carried out in the Kara Sea in the estuaries of the Ob and Yenisei rivers from 14 August to 15 October, 1993. Scienti sts from France, Germany, Norway, USA and various Russian institutions took part in the expedition. Sediment systems and ecosystems of the K ara Sea, the marginal filter phenomenon in the Arctic Ocean were studi ed for the first time.
