Based on the literary data and integral materials obtained during the
49th Cruise of the R/V Dmitry Mendeleev (September, 1993), mathematica
l model of the pelagic ecosystem of the Kara Sea functioning was devel
oped and verified. The model calculations allow to describe seasonal d
ynamics in the North and South-West Kara Sea of the following main eco
system elements: phytoplankton, bacteria, protozoans, small zooplankto
n, large euryphagous animals and predators, as well as autochthonous d
etritus and dissolved organic matter. The performed model experiments
on the estimation of the influence of the organic matter carried in by
the Yenisei River discharge have shown that the great bulk of zooplan
kton makes up for approximately a half of its ration with the suspensi
on brought by the river and that it is impossible to equalize the biot
ic annual balance of the marine ecosystem without taking into consider
ation the allochthonous organic matter of the rivers discharge. The co
mparison of the calculated and in situ parameters showed that the meas
ured magnitudes appeared to be mainly in the range of the values confi
ned by the calculated curves for the late-summer state of the ecosyste
m.
