Particle fluxes in the Kara sea and Ob and Yenisei estuaries were dete
rmined in September 1993 during the 49-th cruise of the R/V ''Dmitry M
endeleev'' for the first time. Composition of particles was studied. 2
3 sedimentological stations were deployed. Samples were obtained at 13
stations. In the open Kara Sea off Ob and Yenisei estuaries particle
fluxes were equal to 9.0 - 62.6 mg m-2 d-1, in Ob estuary - up to 1321
mg m-2 d-1, and in Yenisei estuary - up to 22156 mg m-2 d-1. Fluxes o
f organic carbon in these regions were 0.71 - 3.29; 4.28 - 9.04; 26.7
- 368 mg m-2 d-1 correspondingly. Particulate material is represented
mainly by pellets of crustacea and by ''marine snow'', consisting main
ly of diatoms.
