Genetics of common wheat may be successfully developed in close connec tion with breeding on the basis of a well-studied genetic collection a vailable for wide use. The article contains information about the worl d genetic collection of common wheat: describes the view of the author wit respect to the problem of creation of a collection in Russian and presents the results of personal investigations concerning genetic an alysis of morphological traits and production on the basis of genotype of a widely adapted variety, of lines with identified alleles of gene s encoding these traits.
