An analysis of experimental data on genetic determination of resistanc
e to powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis f. sp. tritici) in common wheat
(Triticum aestivum L.) performed at the Vavilov All-Russian Institute
of Plant Industry and research institutes of other countries is repor
ted. At present, few effective resistance genes have been revealed in
different regions of Russia. The collections of the Institute contain
a great diversity of wheat-related species and genera resistant to the
disease. Special attention is given to T. monococcum L. and Secale ce
reale L. as sources of new genes for resistance to powdery mildew.
