Behavior of macromolecules during chromatography in binary eluents und
er various conditions (in size-exclusion, adsorption, and critic modes
) were considered by the example of poly(phenylenesulfones) of various
molecular masses and with various end groups. The molecular-mass dist
ribution of poly(phenylenesulfone) fractions having molecular mass bet
ween 1.5 and 6.0 x 10(4) was studied in chloroform-heptane and chlorof
orm-tetrachloromethane solvent mixtures, where one of the components p
erforms as a precipitating agent for the polymer. The mechanism of sep
aration of macromolecules on alkylated silica gel according to their s
ize was discussed. The critical conditions were selected for analysis
of functionality-type distribution of end groups in macromolecular com
pounds.
